Kam was known by every customer he worked with for his “Legendary Customer Service.”
Kam is being honored for his passion, dedication and professionalism as a DSR in the Foodservice Industry. Kam Miller has made his mark on many and earned his place in AFDR’s DSR Hall of Fame as the DSR of the Month for May 2020.
We are honoring Kam Miller of Martin Bros. Distributing after being in the foodservice industry for 34 years. Kam started at age 14 working at Red Heart Pizza for Rick Moser, his coworker now at Martin Bros., doing everything from making pizzas to delivering them. Kam then went to work with Rick at two other equipment companies before Rick brought Kam to Martin Bros. to run the equipment department at Martin Bros. doing everything from the selling, organizational, design, mechanical, specs, installing, and demonstrating the equipment for the operator. He truly was a one-stop-shop.
We normally build this show from a personal interview around how the honoree did his job, but we did not have that opportunity with Kam because he passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2020.
In this interview, we are talking to Kam’s co-workers Todd Hauser and Rick Moser who give you their heart-felt take on why Kam is being honored with this prestigious sales and service award.
There are many different types of Distributor Sales Reps and Kam was “The” large equipment guy known and respected by all who had the pleasure of experiencing his professional work ethic, knowledge & mechanical ability, and desire to please the customer. He was instrumental in helping the rest of the sales reps penetrate accounts that they may never have had any luck in. There were many accounts that called the company just to buy equipment and ended up buying everything from Martin brothers because of Kam’s personality and salesmanship.
Kam was always smiling and made everybody in the room smile. He was the kind of guy you’d want as a son, son-in-law, brother, uncle, coworker, family member. Kam worked tirelessly and could bring calm to any situation.
He exemplified Martin Bros. company goal of Legendary customer Service.
Rick Moser and Todd Hauser, Kam’s coworkers and close friends explains, “We had a secret weapon in Kam Miller with him going in with large equipment first, he opened the door for us with the food because they were so pleased with his expertise and service. Kam could do it all! His knowledge gave him extra margins because people bought from him because of his immense knowledge.”
Their large equipment department is a bigger part of the business than even the numbers show because of the doors it opened for their DSRs to sell food and all the other supplies and provide great customer service.
At shows, he didn’t mess around, he loaded up lots of big pieces of equipment, towed it himself and set it all up to really demonstrate the equipment; never blew it off with the least effort.
Kam was 110% all the time; he was a pleaser.
The Rational Combi oven was his favorite piece of equipment because it was so versatile. He also loved Vulcan.
Kam had been a Volunteer fireman as was his dad. He really loved NASCAR.
As discussed in this interview, Kam Miller lived out his company’s motto of legendary customer service and just really taking care of folks in his professional and personal life which greatly impacted other’s businesses and lives. We can all learn something positive from conducting one’s life in such a way.
